Within the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), there has not been a lot of discussion around the topic of diversity. Diversity issues have really only been brought to light over the past few years and it is important to identify areas for improvement within the ABA field. Research has shown that some behavioral interventions may not be beneficial for certain ethnic and cultural minority groups due to their lack of culturally tailored services. The conversation about Asian American culture is just one small part of the larger picture around diversity. This presentation on “ABA for Asian American Clients” will identify several barriers and obstacles for Asian American families when receiving ABA therapy, teach clinicians how to best adapt ABA interventions to Asian American clients and families, and provide strategies for designing culturally tailored ABA therapy for Asian American clients.
